Worship and Music

We gather for worship on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. in the H.G. Hill Chapel.  Our services are traditional, following the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship and the Directory for Worship.  The hearing of God's word in Scripture and preaching is central, and music also plays an important role.  The Lord's Supper (Holy Communion) is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month.  Baptisms of infants and adults also occur during morning worship.

Children worship with their parents, and there is a Conversation with the Children early in the service.  Following this time, children in kindergarten or younger may attend Children's Church during the remainder of the service.  Older children are encouraged to worship with their parents.  A children's bulletin and other activities are available in the narthex.

Music is an integral part of the worship life of Hillwood Presbyterian Church.  We have two choirs that offer their gifts of music.  The Bell Choir, under the direction of Carmen Sanders, plays during worship on a quarterly basis.  They rehearse on Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00.  The Chancel Choir, under the direction of Carmen Sanders, sings throughout the year.  They rehearse on Wednesdays, 7:30-9:00 p.m. The Children's Choir sings on special occasions such as Christmas and Easter and rehearses accordingly.  Palm Sunday each year is marked with a New Orleans Dixieland Jazz Service. Anyone interested in praising God through music is encouraged to participate.
